About

As a therapist, I prioritize the psychoeducation portion of OCD treatment. It's really important to me that you understand OCD as a disorder, what's going to exacerbate your symptoms, and what's going to help you alleviate your symptoms. I never judge—it's not my job to have any personal opinions about anything that you're sharing. We are not our thoughts. Outside of work, I love to cook, travel, be around friends and family, and play with my adopted retired racing greyhound.

I like helping people understand what OCD is and watching them get their lives back. I will meet you wherever you are and gear you up for ERP. As long as you're willing to work, I'm ready to work along with you.

Get to know Kara Lash

I like people, and I'm so interested in them. From a young age, people always talked to and would confide in me. People feel comfortable being around me. It's always been a strength of mine, providing time and space for people to open up and get support and encouragement. When it came time to choose a career path, becoming a therapist was a natural fit. I want to help people become the best versions of themselves, so they can improve their lives and learn how they function within them.

People close to me have OCD. It's so misunderstood. It's often misdiagnosed. Not many therapists specialize in its treatment. I've seen that play out in real time. Then someone close to me went through NOCD treatment. They were talking about their experience with recovery, and I was kind of blown away. I wanted to learn more, and the more I learned about OCD, the treatment, and how effective it is, the more interested I became in providing that treatment.

My background includes experience with a range of different mental health concerns and various populations. I've worked with severe and persistent mental illness—things like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. I've also worked in addiction, with couples, and with kids and families. On top of that, I worked in private practice, treating general mental health conditions.

Everybody at NOCD cares about the mission and wants you to have effective treatment and feel supported on that journey. ERP can be challenging, but it's worthwhile, and we're going to be supportive every step of the way.

You should know that I've probably heard what you're thinking and feeling every day. I understand what intrusive thoughts are. I'm trained to understand that the thoughts, ideas, images, and urges are not in line with your values. I'm never going to judge you for an intrusive thought. I'm going to help you learn how to handle them. The more I know, the better I can help.

NOCD therapists are trained by our world-renowned clinical leadership team.
