In this journey, you're not alone. I will listen to you with empathy. You will be heard. There is hope in the treatment process. The first step is asking for help - just getting to that point can be very encouraging.
It was a calling for me, a way to help others. When I was in school, I took a psychology class and noticed the impact it could have on people. Then I tried therapy myself for a little while and noticed the impact it had on me. So I decided to join the psychology program and got my master's in counseling.
When I began working as a therapist, I noticed how often people were struggling with different obsessions or compulsions, which later led me to specialize in OCD. Seeing the positive results of ERP made me want to focus on it even more. I will treat you with empathy, encouragement, and accountability. We could talk about OCD and strategies for a long time, but actually implementing those strategies is what brings about the benefits of this treatment. I will be focused on helping you, but I will also put some responsibility on you and will encourage you during the process.
I have also worked with people who have depression, anxiety, and Bipolar Disorder. That nudged me into working with people who have OCD.
There are going to be ups and downs in the process. It's sort of like a rollercoaster. But in this journey, you're not alone. When there are struggles and difficulties, you have the support of your therapist and your treatment team. It's not an easy journey, but it's one worth going on. I will listen to you with empathy. You will be heard. You're not the only person going through this. There is hope in the treatment process. The first step is asking for help. Just getting to that point alone can be very encouraging.
Know that treatment is confidential. You don't necessarily have to talk about everything in your first session. We can go little by little, sharing more as you feel more comfortable.
