About

As a therapist, I bring a lot of empathy, compassion and understanding. I'm not just a stoic face. Outside of work, I have two dogs—a French bulldog and German shepherd mix—and I love spending time with them and my husband, running, hiking, and being outdoors.

You can learn to manage OCD symptoms and feel more in control. I want to help you understand that you can take the wheel and get on with your day-to-day life.

Get to know Rebecca Gonzalez

I originally worked in schools as a behavioral interventionist. People would give me what they called the rowdy kids in the class. Doing interventions with them and seeing their progress was the most rewarding job I've ever had. That motivated me to move from behavioral interventionist to therapist. Today, I do similar work: I help people understand their challenges, ways that they can manage them, coping tools they can use, and give that education to their family or loved ones so they can better understand what they're going through. It's super-rewarding. I love it.

My previous job was at a residential level of care, mostly with teenagers. I had a handful of clients who had OCD. I saw how interventions really helped them. Then I found out one of my family members has OCD. So I started reading more into it. I learned that OCD is not just under-reported, it could be mistaken for other things. So I wanted to better understand that spectrum and ways of helping those with OCD.

Therapy is not going to completely wipe the symptoms away. But there are definitely ways of managing the symptoms and helping you feel more in control. I want to help you understand that you can take the wheel and get on with your day-to-day life.

That's totally normal, especially if it's toward the beginning of our treatment and I'm pretty much a stranger. Go at your own speed. As a therapist, I am here to be that safe person. My job is also to push you in a gentle manner, as long as you're comfortable with it. I will help you out and be your cheerleader. But progress can take time.

Rebecca has helped me learn to manage my OCD well! Even if I have to go for a longer period of time between NOCD appointments, I know that I can always contact Rebecca for support in the app. That has made exposures and recovery less intimidating for me and has given me the confidence to keep up the progress! Rebecca has flexible appointments including daytime sessions available. I recommend!

Last session Rebecca helped me identify positive coping tools at my disposal and encouraged self compassion. She helped me move forward through a difficult day. Rebecca is very relatable and my sessions with her are a safe space. It’s weird to say, but I don’t actually dread therapy even though it includes exposures to the OCD (which can make me feel a little icky). I’m so blessed to have Rebecca as my OCD therapist! And she teaches me how to utilize my learned tools in other areas needing growth as well!

She's non-judgmental and also knows a lot about OCD. She's been a great support for me for the last 8-9 months

I started out as a member through a different insurance plan which NOCD accepted. My income then changed and I got on medicaid and NOCD told me I'd be covered when I called them. But they denied me after I waited 2 months for my new insurance to kick in because they didn't have medicaid therapists. They didn't even offer me a cash pay option, they just kicked me out. I'm now with a different therapist who isn't even a medicaid therapist and is accepting my insurance, so not sure what NOCD is talking about. My experience with Ashley Ward was absolutely awful. I already gave the care team my feedback but just for anyone on here: please don't pick her. She wanted to brute force my treatment. I shared my deepest feelings and shameful thoughts with her at the beginning of treatment and afterwards, she didn't spend any time educating me on OCD, she didn't take my raw emotional state into consideration and she immediately rushed me to start my exposure ladder. She started talking about how I needed to accept uncertainty already and I wasn't even at that point - it was my first official session! Uncertainty is the biggest issue with OCD people. I wasn't ready and she was pushing. She's like a drill sergeant with no patience, not a therapist. I felt like NOCD trains their therapists to go at a fast pace to get people in and out quickly but after speaking with the care team, they assured me this is not the case. On top of all this, Ashley literally triggered me by saying something that I warned her not to say and I told her that I have been traumatized by previous therapists because of their responses. She was completely oblivious to how delicate OCD is and how you need to listen to the client and their needs. This isn't about you and your agenda, Ashley. After I switched to a new therapist, Rebecca Gonzalez, who I was excited to work with as she appeared very patient and well educated about OCD, that's when my insurance got denied. Overall, it was not a good experience for me. If they want to make it accessible, they should have medicaid therapists. Just because I have low income doesn't mean I should be exempt from treatment. 2 stars simply for Rebecca who I had just met and who was super sweet to me, otherwise my experience warrants 1 star.

I’ll miss working with Rebecca!! She has helped me work through so much, and I’m finally at a point where I can be in a restaurant and not want to leave, I can get up and drive to work, I can wear a single pair of shoes a day without switching (weird I know lol), and most importantly, hug my family for the first time in years. Rebecca has been a genuine gift and pleasure to work with, and doesn’t mind my annoying salad crunching during lunch time sessions LOL. So happy to have met her, (and her dog is pretty awesome, too)! 10/10 would recommend.
