About

My approach in treating OCD is to collaborate with the member to create a treatment plan that decreases OCD symptoms and increases skills to combat OCD. Outside of my therapeutic work, I enjoy spending time outside, I appreciate the arts, I like watching movies/ TV shows, and I enjoy reading and spending time with family.

Get to know Virginia Purnell

At a very young age, I realized I had a natural skill for listening and connecting to others. That innate skill set has guided me to the helping profession of therapy. Today, I guide people through their struggles or barriers and foster their ability to work on themselves, so they can live the life they want.

I chose to work with OCD to help people get their lives back on track and experience sustained recovery from OCD.

In addition to treating OCD, I have worked with individuals living with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, trauma, and psychotic disorders. I chose to work in those areas to help individuals minimize symptoms that create barriers in their lives.

Before starting treatment with me, you should know that in the first few sessions, I will spend time gathering information from you. Then we will develop a collaborative treatment plan and begin treating your OCD symptoms via exposures.

If you're worried about sharing your thoughts with me, please understand that I am an easy person to talk to. I practice empathy and genuine regard for all the members I work with. I find it extremely important to allow space for members to say what they want, and or need to say, without the fear of judgment. Working with me is a safe place.

Virginia did very well at seeing me as a person while also keeping a packed intake session moving along. She took a few extra minutes at the end when I asked what I could do for aftercare, and thanked me for advocating for myself.
