About

As a therapist, I embrace the "taboo" topics, the uncomfortable conversations, and the growing pains. I take a warm, collaborative, and direct approach to working with members and am invested in your overall well-being. Outside of work, you can find me swimming, trying new challah bread recipes with my wife, and spending time with animals. I foster senior pups through the Animal Pad in San Diego and have one little guy named Tito who you will likely meet in sessions.

Get to know Michaela McCloud

I became a therapist to connect and support folks from underserved populations. I have primarily worked with OCD, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, as well as the LGBTQ+ community at large. I spent the majority of my life wondering why certain aspects of life were so challenging for me, while they seemed so easy for others. Like many people, I was diagnosed with OCD many years after symptoms appeared. Supporting members through their personal journeys is a fulfilling experience and makes me excited to do what I do.

OCD is a highly misunderstood disorder. Having OCD myself, I understand the importance of quality mental health care. Because OCD is so misunderstood, many people are misdiagnosed and engage in traditional talk therapy (which the mental health field now knows can make OCD worse). I came to NOCD to become trained in ERP so I can support members as they tackle their OCD head-on and create a more fulfilling life.

Before NOCD, I worked in community mental health as a lead clinician, where I supported members with a range of diagnoses such as OCD, depressive and anxiety disorders, as well as schizophrenia, bipolar, and panic disorders. I have worked extensively within the LGBTQ+ community and feel strongly about incorporating social justice into my professional and personal life.

You are brave and worthy of happiness! ERP can be challenging, but we will collaborate on it together.

Tell me you're nervous! That is completely normal and understandable. I will provide support as you share at your own speed.

I feel that I’ve made no progress. I am still where I was when I joined. Doubtful that this is even helping

I was having a really bad day, I expressed frustration and anger and excitement over what I was going thru and the therapist handled it like a champ and didn't flee away, but got me to a point where I slowed down and started talking instead of raising my voice. That's not easy for a therapist to do and I really respect that they were able to do that. So far, this therapy experience has been the best I've ever tried.
