About

I approach OCD treatment with compassion and respect. I will keep you informed with honesty and directness. Progressional and exposure-based treatment is most effective when done in the appropriate way. Outside of work, I love to be outside and active. I like going to the gym, walking my dog, and being out in the sun. I consider myself an amateur foodie. I moved to the South a few years back, and it was the best decision I ever made. Although I miss the mountains, I don't miss the snow and the cold!

Get to know Max Croteau

In school, I knew that I wanted to help people and liked being social. I stumbled onto our school’s psychology club and was intrigued by some of the course titles and the opportunities a psychology degree presented. I became fascinated with helping people gain insight into their views and beliefs. I was inspired to help people make the changes in their lives I knew they could make.

For most of my career, I worked in primary addiction treatment. I was interested in OCD because it had relevant similarities to primary addiction. I've also facilitated trauma therapy using various forms of exposure therapy to work with individuals suffering from trauma. I wanted to expand my knowledge base and help those who are struggling with OCD.

The areas I've worked in and am most passionate about are addiction, trauma, and families. Often, the three are interwoven. There are so many elements to all three specific areas and I wanted to identify how often trauma and substance use are correlated with other mental health diagnoses.

You are not alone. You are not defective. OCD is not what is wrong with you. The focus is on what happened to you, the person, and how we can find the solution to what you're struggling with. There is hope. Therapy may not be easy, but it is worthwhile.

I always encourage people to have multiple outlets of expression, whether that's therapy, art, music, or journaling. Have other outlets that allow you to express yourself in some way until you can express things verbally. I encourage the vocalization of struggle. I will help you identify the barriers leading to your fear-based response.
