About

One of my favorite parts of OCD therapy is providing education and normalizing the OCD experience for people, who often have carried shame, believing something is wrong with them because of their intrusive thoughts. Getting the chance to tell someone they aren't their thoughts—this is OCD, a diagnosable and treatable disorder—is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. A few fun facts about me: I was born and raised in Minnesota and moved to California about five years ago. I have a cat named Liam, who likely will be an honorary third member of your treatment team. I love musical theater, reading, comedy, and spending time with loved ones.

As someone with OCD, I understand the shame that comes with this disorder. There's literally nothing you can say that will make me judge you. You are not your thoughts.

Get to know Julie Plutt

Growing up, I experienced my own struggles with mental health. When I was 14, I went to therapy for the first time. I was met with a compassion and warmth I'd never experienced before. It was the first time I felt like I could truly take down my walls and share things I’d never shared before. From that moment, I knew I wanted to be a therapist and provide that experience to others.

I have experienced firsthand the shame that accompanies OCD and how debilitating the disorder can be. OCD is such a widely misunderstood diagnosis, which is why I was unwilling to reach out for help or share what I was experiencing for such a long time. I find that having that shared experience is helpful in understanding and connecting with others.

I specialize in all anxiety spectrum disorders, including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic, agoraphobia, specific phobias, avoidant restive food intake disorder, as well as body repetitive focused behaviors (such as dermatillomania and trichotillomania), and depression.

You get out what you put in. One of my first supervisors told me, “The patient is the driver, and you're the navigator. You help them get there, but it's ultimately up to them to do the work.” In many years of experience, I've found that to be true. ERP can seem overwhelming at first, but I promise we'll work together to approach your fears. My mantra for approaching all exposures is always, 'Challenging, yet manageable.' I will never force you to do something you aren't willing to do.

As someone with OCD, I understand firsthand the shame that comes with this disorder. There's literally nothing you can say that will make me judge you. You are not your thoughts. This is a safe place.
